My Long Week

I don’t even know where to begin. I’ve been living a very primitive lifestyle the last few days. Both the power in my room and the internet has been broken, I’m writing this post thanks to an extension cord from the hallway. I packed from my failed trip to Munich this morning using a wind up emergency flashlight. I should have stolen some glow sticks from the club kids at the party the other night. ;-) (see pictures below)

Tonight is the first night I haven’t attended a social event since I arrived in Germany last Sunday. I’m really looking forward to a quiet night. The bars are very smoky and loud, my lungs and vocal cords are soar from yelling and breathing second hand smoke. Class starts on Tuesday, and I was planning on making a trip to Munich this weekend. For various confusing reasons, the group I was traveling with fell apart. I am planning on going again in late February, but I’ll make the most of the weekend anyway. If I can get people moving early enough, I’m going to try to see Ehrenbreitstein Fortress tomorrow morning and then go on an exchange student scavenger hunt in Koblenz tomorrow afternoon.

WHU is very different from the big state schools I’m accustom to attending. The culture reminds me of how I imagine a private prep school in the states, sort of like the movie “dead poets society”. That being said, I’ve been very impressed with the WHU students, they are very welcoming and seem legitimately interested in getting to know me and helping me have a good experience.

I haven’t gone running or exercised in any way since I left Chicago. I have been eating and drinking tons of German cuisine, beer and wine. My dorm is a pretty long hike up a long hill and I’ve been very active and busy, but I’m going to have to get in to a running routine if I’m serious at all about running a marathon this year.
