My Time

I was in Brazil last year for a UNC class trip, it was towards the end of the week and we all hadn’t slept for more than a few hours a night. Everyone was exhausted and slap-happy from lack of sleep. One of my friends, a west point grad, with a determined strait face, paraphrased the speech from Goonies :-)

"We can’t rest now, because back in the US, it's their time…. their time, up there! … Down here, it's our time… It's our time down here!"

We shared a moment of silence before everyone broke into laughter, but believe it or not, it actually seemed to give us a second wind.

As silly as it was, this moment stuck with me. Once I return to the real world, I’ll have more and more responsibility. A job, a boss, rent/mortgage, bills, long work weeks, relationships, commutes, etc….. I’m sure it’ll be great, but right now, this is my time, and I want to take full advantage of every day. :-)

So I'm planning a very aggressive travel schedule. On Saturday, I’m going with around ten other exchange students to Luxembourg City, but I’ll be back in time for the super bowl (go Colts). Next week I’m flying to Istanbul to meet my group for the marketing case competition. The following weekend I’m going to Cologne for Carnival, this is a huge street parade that's been highly recommended by the WHU students. Finally I’m going to Berlin for a WHU school trip.

I haven’t locked in anything after that. UNC is sending a group to Munich in March so I’ll probably find a way to meet them. I also really want to see Paris, but I haven’t made plans for this trip yet. Hopefully, I can keep my energy and enthusiasm through all this travel. After all, it's my time.
